What are you doing this summer? READING!

Children who read 4 or more books over the summer fare better on fall reading comprehension tests than peers who read 1 or no books over the summer.

Older (middle grade students) who read 4 or 5 books over the summer eliminated the summer reading set-back.

Your child can become a better reader and a more informed person over the summer. Please enjoy the summer reading packets and remember to return your sheets to be entered for prizes when you return as 5th graders in the fall!

Owl Pellets!

We are dissecting owl pellets as part of our ecosystem unit. Here are some links you can visit to get more information about this fascinating project!

The World Owl Fund has great information about owls and their pellets.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a great web site that lets you search for information about almost any bird you can think of. Check out the sound and video that lets you hear the bird call and see it fly.

Want to dissect your own owl pellet at home without actually having to touch one? You can do it virtually, here.

This is a fun, short video that shows what a bird skeleton from an owl pellet looks like.
