"Larry Time"

I have really enjoyed conferencing with everyone so far! I hope you are all finding this time valuable and are ready to return to school Monday with energy and motivation.

During conferences you had a chance to read a little bit about a critical thinking and decision making curriculum offered my our school psychologist, Larry Bush. I have provided a link here if you are interested in reading more about this program.

Skate Day Information

Halloween Skate Day 2013

Halloween is quickly creeping up on us and it’s time for all of the JCOS creatures of the night to gather at Skate City for our wicked all school skate day.  On Thursday, October 31st, dressed in our most outrageous costumes, we will climb aboard the buses and be transported to the Skate City off of 64th & Sheridan for a monstrous time.

The cost is $8.00, which must be turned in to your advisor on or before Thursday, Oct. 31st.  We’ll be picked up from school at 9:00and dropped back off at 1:30.  Don’t forget to pack all the gooey and slimy things that you want to eat for lunch and bring your roller blades if you want to use them.

Everyone is strongly encouraged to wear your costumes, as long as it won’t get in the way of skating (no masks or costumes that hang down by your feet).  Don’t forget to bring your head, $8.00, your slimy lunch and your costume.  Parents, grandparents and siblings are welcome to join us if they dare, but must also pay $8.00.  Please call Rosie at #303-982-7056 if you have any questions.  Come dressed in your best and be ready to have a bone chilling good time.

Directions: This is a different Skate City than we have gone to the past several years. Take Wadsworth North to I-76.  Get on I-76going East.  Get off Hwy 76 on to Sheridan Blvd.  Go North on Sheridan to 64th.  Turn left (West) on to 64th and then right in to Skate City.  Skate City is on the Northwest corner of 64th and Sheridan.

Haunted House – Do you like to be scared?  If so, come on down to the gym and get ready to scream.  We will open the doors to the haunted house around 1:45 and will keep them open until 3:30 or until everyone is too scared to go through any more.

Glamorous Gluesticks

Thank you and Congratulations!

A big THANK YOU goes out to Jaden, Sara, and Kate!  Their after school bake sale added quite a bit of spending money to the IA supply fund, and now we all have our own glue sticks and erasable pens.

CONGRATULATIONS to Luka and Katzi for their publication in this month's JCOS school newspaper edition. They each wrote an "Out of Five" peer book report that will be read and appreciated by many.

A belated CONGRATULATIONS to Leif for being one of two winners in the 2013 Zombie/Pumpkin Dash t-shirt design contest. I know I can't wait to get my t-shirt on Halloween!

A weekly THANK YOU goes out to Bobbi for coming in on Thursdays to grade our Mad Minutes. She makes it possible for everyone to get their scores as soon as possible. The wait would be much longer without her help!

I look forward to seeing everyone during conferences next week.

Fondly,
Gabrielle

Can you help us on Durbin Day?

Gabi's advising and Jeffco Open is looking to have a community wide blood drive on November 22, 2013 (Durbin Day).  If you are 16 years old or older and meet the other medical guidelines, we would be honored to have you as part of our Durbin Day of Giving. 28 staff members have already signed their name to the "interest poll" provided by Bonfils Blood Center. We only need 12 more signatures in order to qualify for a mobile blood drive at our school.  If you, or anyone you know, would be willing to add your name to the "interest poll" to help us meet the 40 person minimum, please email your name and phone number to Gabi at ghovinen@jeffco.k12.co.us.

Medical Guidelines:
18 years old or over (or 16 years old with parental consent)
Weigh between 110-350 pounds.
Be in general good health

Have not have a body peircing or tattoo within the last twelve months

If we are able to have enough volunteers, our family group will be promoting the blood drive, encouraging participation, providing cookies and juice to donors, and making thank-yous for participants.
